"The education sector has a huge potential for cooperation between Russia and Indonesia”, said the Ambassador. “In our country, the middle class stratum is growing, and more and more parents are willing to send their children to study abroad. Thus, high standards and the availability of Russian education can become an excellent platform for our joint work”.
NArFU has cooperated with Indonesia in the sphere of education since 2013. The Russian Center of Science and Culture in Jakarta played an important role in the establishment and development of this partnership. Currently eight students in Indonesia are studying in NArFU in bachelor’s and master’s programs.
Indonesian students are actively involved in scientific work and social life at the University and in the city of Arkhangelsk. A third-year student of NArFU’s Higher School of Energy, Oil and Gas, Muhammad Iksan Kiat, is the Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Students in Russia, interacting with the Indonesian Embassy in Russia and coordinating activities of the association. Maria Novitasari, a student at the Higher School of Natural Sciences and Technologies took part in the expedition project "Arctic Floating University - 2016" and in a meeting of NArFU students with Anne, the Princess Royal of the United Kingdom. Maria is also the coordinator of NArFU International Friendship Club.
The Ambassador thanked NArFU for showing sensitivity to his compatriots studying in the university. The participation of NArFU in the 24th Indonesian International Education & Training educational exhibition, which took place during the visit of the representatives of the university to Jakarta in February 2015, was also noted as an important and positive aspect in the development of educational cooperation.
After a presentation of NArFU’s educational and research opportunities, participants in the meeting moved on to discuss the possible cooperation formats. NArFU is interested in establishing contacts within institutions of Indonesian higher education to develop programs of academic mobility for students and teachers, and initiating of joint research and educational projects in areas of priority for both nations (IT, oil and gas business, biotechnology and bioengineering, etc.). In addition, NARFU is pleased to see Indonesian researchers and students on the board of the research ship "Professor Molchanov" as members of the "Arctic Floating University 2017" expedition.
